Biggin Hill Airport has offered the nearby RAF Chapel of Remembrance £50,000 to carry out maintenance work.
The announcement follows the government’s decision that it could no longer fund the chapel’s upkeep, according to a spokesperson at the airport.
A public consultation on the future of the facility revealed 80% of 150,000 local residents supported the idea of Biggin Hill “preserving its historic connections”.
The airport’s managing director, Will Curtis, said: “We want to properly secure the future of this historic chapel which is in keeping with its role of playing an active part in the local community as an important heritage site.
“We will consult with the Ministry of Defence and the London Borough of Bromley as to how we can best achieve this goal."
