Building work has begun on a leisure development that will incorporate a multi-screen cinema in Orpington.
In addition to the seven-screen multiplex, the 6,038sq m scheme will also include three restaurants, a Pure Gym chain outlet covering 1,328sq m and three retail units.
The project, which is on the site of the Walnuts shopping centre, is being delivered by Miller Construction and is scheduled for completion in spring 2015.
The mayor of Bromley, Councillor Julian Bennington, was in attendance to oversee work starting: "I am delighted to be here to turn the first sod on this exciting and important development in Orpington town centre," she said.
The town has been without a cinema for more than 30 years, since the Commodore closed in 1982 and was later demolished.
Last year, Orpington became a Business Improvement District (BID). Sharon Baldwin, manager of the BID, said: "Local people are really excited about the new complex. This is the first of a significant number of projects that will transform Orpington."
