Ground control to major tun

David Bowie's long list of achievements includes co-founding the Beckenham Arts Lab, the Three Tuns, in the 1960s.

Now, the Bromley Arts and Community Initiative (BACI) has written to the influential musician to enlist his help in doing something similar in the Grade II listed Royal Bell building in Bromley High Street, according to the News Shopper.

The BACI plan sets out to restore the Royal Bell into a community building, with exhibition space, a gallery, a shop, a studio and rehearsal spaces as well as a pub.

BACI secretery, Amanda Hone, told the News Shopper she was hopeful of a response.

"We are not asking for any money,” she said. “I emailed him talking about the rich history he has in this area and talking about the Arts Lab.

"We are inspired by what he did and I want to bring him back to his childhood and say what you did with the Arts Lab, we want to do with the Royal Bell.

"We want to add him to our list of supporters."
