Chinese developer ZhongRong Holdings is firming up proposals to develop an exact replica of the original 900,000 sq feet Crystal Palace building, constructed to house the Great Exhibition of 1851.

Its plans would see the building built at the Crystal Palace Park site where the original building stood until it was destroyed by fire in 1936.

The new steel-framed structure would house exhibitions and other events, as well as boasting a range of commercial space, Property Week reported.

The magazine said ZhongRong was working with the Greater London Authority, Bromley Council and Arup on the proposals and hoped to submit a planning application for the scheme before the end of the year.
