Contracts exchanged for Orpington's Odeon Cinema

Tue 2 July 2013, 3:11 pm

Odeon Cinema has exchanged contracts to open its seven screen multiplex cinema in Orpington in 2014.

It will be the centerpiece for the wider regeneration of the town centre, as part of a 50,000sq ft shopping centre development scheme, The Walnuts, which also comprises four large retail units and three restaurants.

Miller Developments, which is managing the scheme, is also understood to be speaking to a national hotel operator and a number of major gym groups.

Neil Finnie, development manager of Miller, said: "Odeon’s commitment is a real vote of confidence in the potential of Orpington town centre and we will shortly commence work on this development that will change the face of the town centre.”

Mike Wimble of Ellandi, the investment managers group which advises on the project, added: "Thriving town centres are not just about retail any more.  Bringing these complimentary uses into the town that already has a leisure centre and college at its heart will boost footfall and give locals the town they deserve."
