Cray Wanderers bid for Manorfields site

The chairman of football team Cray Wanderers has submitted a bid to turn the site of a disused Orpington care home into a new stadium for the club.
Last month, Bromley Council put the 0.6ha site of Manorfields Care Home up for sale, inviting tenders for its redevelopment.
Bidding closed on 8 May, and last week Wanderers chairman Gary Hillman said he had submitted an offer to buy the site and an adjacent school to build a new football ground for the club, the Bromley Times reported.
Last year Bromley refused Hillman’s plans to build a 5,000-seat stadium for the club in Sandy Lane, St Pauls Cray, complete with space for 182 homes.
Hillman indicated he would he will renew his interest in the Sandy Lane site if his Manorfields plan was unsuccessful.
As Invest Bromley reported last month, the council had suggested that a residential development may be a suitable use for the Manorfields site, provided that any scheme respected the “open nature” of the site and contained up to 35 per cent affordable housing.
