Care home site marketed for development

Thu 11 April 2013, 9:34 am

Bromley Council is putting a former care home up for sale for potential residential development.

The 0.6ha site of Manorfields, Orpington, is being marketed for sale by tender as potentially suitable for dozens of new homes.

Bromley said that housing of up to two storeys, with additional roof accommodation, may be suitable for the Avalon Road site, provided that any proposals had regard to the massing and scale of adjacent developments and the “open nature” of the area’s character.

However it added that it would be looking for affordable housing to make up 35 per cent of any residential development, and that the bulk of that housing should be affordable rented.

The authority said that developers would be encouraged to enter into a partnership with an affordable housing provider from its preferred list, which includes Affinity Sutton (owner of an adjacent development), A2 Dominion, Hyde Housing, L&Q, Moat, Town and Country Housing, and Viridian.

The closing date for tenders is 8 May.
