South Central start 'a few weeks' away

Thu 21 March 2013, 4:13 pm

Work on the construction of the Bromley South Central cinema complex and residential development is set to start next month, Bromley Council has said.

The authority said it expected Cathedral Group to commence the development at Westmoreland Road “in a few weeks”.

The 2.4 acre scheme will see the demolition of Westmoreland Road car park, and other buildings, and the construction of a nine-screen cinema, 200 homes, a selection of restaurants, a basement car park and a 130-bedroom hotel.

Council leader Stephen Carr said the car park now had an official closure date of 2 April and that work would commence soon after.

“This is a landmark development that will start to transform the town centre and provide first class leisure facilities for residents,” he said.

“Attracting high quality development has always been a critical part of our area action plan but the reality of this approach is that it takes time, particularly in the current economic climate.

“We remain resolutely committed to our Building a Better Bromley agenda and firmly believe that Bromley remains a compelling opportunity for investors."
