New Year start eyed for £90m South Central scheme

Wed 12 December 2012, 5:39 pm

Preparatory work for the construction of the £90 million Bromley South Central development is now expected to begin in the New Year.

Bromley Council said that the five-storey Westmoreland Road car park - which will be demolished to pave the way for Cathedral Group’s mixed-use scheme - would stay open until January.

Bromley South Central will include a  nine-screen cinema, restaurants, a hotel, 200 new homes, and a new 400-space car park.

The scheme’s leisure facilities will be centred around a landscaped podium area, with parking on the level below.

Councillor Peter Morgan, Bromley’s renewal and recreation lead, said keeping Westmoreland Road car park in use over Christmas would make life easier for commuters and shoppers alike.

“The handover of this site in the New Year will herald a new start for Bromley with an exciting scheme in the heart of the town centre, which will invigorate what our town has to offer and set out our intentions for the future,“ he said.

The scheme is due for completion in 2015.
