Westmoreland development takes step forward

Fri 7 September 2012, 4:06 pm

Work on a key Bromley redevelopment project is set to take a step forward next month as preparations begin to clear the ground for a cinema, hotel and restaurant complex.

Bromley Council said its five-storey Westmoreland Road car park - which will be demolished to make way for Cathedral Group’s planned development - was expected to close by the end of next month.

The news follows planning approval being granted in March for the redevelopment, which will also include new homes.

As well as the 2.4 acre car park, five small single-storey retail units will be demolished to make way for the development, which will be set around a central landscaped podium-mounted public plaza, with cinema and parking levels below.

At the time of the approval, Bromley Council leader Stephen Carr said the plans were a “hugely positive step forward” and demonstrated the confidence developers had in the borough.
